Word from the president
Myles Johnston, PSEC President
Canada
Cupcake to go, 9×12
750 $
Welcome to the 5th edition of ‘Pixel Pastel’ online international juried exhibition 2024. (officially named Pixel Pastel in our 3rd year)
After 5 years of organizing this online exhibition, I’ve come to realize just how important online shows really are. As part of a pastel society’s mission which is to promote the medium, online shows foster growth and connect to a wider audience. Every year, we have artists from 20 or more countries submitting their artwork! These shows are a gateway to discovering pastel artists from all around the world, breaking down barriers of geography and access. It allows us all to grow as a global community, foster meaningful connections, learn new techniques, ideas and inspiration, and gain insight into the diverse stories and perspective from around the world. We all share the same passion for pastel and we hope to inspire artists of all kinds to try pastel and discover this unique, beautiful and versatile medium. Online shows don’t replace gallery shows, but rather offer artists and collectors many unique opportunities to discover and connect. Connecting and learning is what a pastel society is all about.
This exhibition will run from December 15th through to March 15th 2025.
Congratulations to the 95 artists who had their artwork accepted from 412 submitted images, and chosen by our selection juror master pastellist Susan M Story who won our top award in 2022! Susan had the daunting task to choose the show for us and did a fantastic job – We are truly amazed by the outstanding artwork and exceptional artistic talent on display once again this year!
Congratulations to all of the award winners! 18 magnificent paintings were chosen by our awards judge, internationally renown master pastellist TaiMeng Lim, an artist of exceptional talent who also has won many awards with Psec, as well as many exhibitions around the world. On behalf of the PSEC Executive Committee, I wish to thank both jury teams for their generosity, dedication and time devoted to this very difficult task. We are truly honoured by your participation.
We wish to invite you to visit our special jury gallery as well as our very own PSEC Masters’ gallery on the exhibition page.
A special in memoriam section this year is dedicated to our beloved and long time devoted committee member Linda Blaney who passed away on October 30th this year. Linda is in fact the one who came up with the name Pixel Pastel. Linda will remain in our hearts forever and her artwork will live on in our homes and private collections. We hope you enjoy some of her beautiful art.
As always, a special thanks and much gratitude to our dedicated PSEC committee members and everyone who volunteered their valuable time and skills in order to make this online exhibition a success. We’d like to thank Fannie Blaney, our graphic designer for our publicity and social media posters, and to Marie-Hélène Archambault of Conceptions Web Archambault who worked long hours to set up our website and exhibition page. Thank you also to Austin Hamby from ShowSubmit, the man behind the platform we use for the submission and the selection process and that makes everything so much easier!
Last but not least, to all of our sponsors for your continued support and generosity. Your contributions are an essential part of our exhibitions and we truly value our partnership with all of you as we strive to promote the pastel medium and its wonderful artists around the world.
We truly wish you will enjoy our international exhibition that portrays a variety of artistic styles and subjects and puts on display the colourful world and sheer beauty of pastel paintings!
I take the occasion to wish everyone a happy, healthy and safe holiday season.
Sincerely,
Myles Johnston – PSEC President
