MEMBERSHIP AND MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Membership

All artists from Canada and abroad who practice dry pastel are welcome to join the Society.

To be eligible for PSEC exhibitions, submitted artwork must be created using at least 90% dry pastel. Dry pastel must represent at least 90% of the visible painted surface of the artwork. The use of another medium is permitted for up to 10% of the visible painted surface.

Benefits

PSEC members have the opportunity to participate in three types of exhibitions, organized according to a program established by the Society. Some of these exhibitions are presented in alternation from one year to the next.

1. “LES PASTELLISTES” EXHIBITION (biennial)

Our “Les Pastellistes” exhibition is a juried exhibition generally held in the fall at a recognized gallery in Montreal. To provide artists with the opportunity to showcase their best work, a selection of submitted artwork is made by a selection jury.

The exhibition includes awards and distinctions, as well as various activities allowing members and the public to discover and appreciate the art of pastel.

2. “PASTEL TOUJOURS” EXHIBITION (annual)

“Pastel Toujours” is a non-juried exhibition open to all members, and it also includes awards and distinctions.

This exhibition is held outside Montreal, in different regions of Quebec, depending on available opportunities and venues. Its purpose is to promote and raise awareness of pastel art throughout Quebec.

3. “PIXEL PASTEL” ONLINE EXHIBITION (biennial)

Our international online exhibition, “Pixel Pastel,” brings together pastel artists from around the world and showcases the richness, diversity, and excellence of pastel art.

The “Les Pastellistes” and “Pixel Pastel” exhibitions are presented in alternation, on a biennial cycle, in order to offer members and the public a diverse program.

Over the years, hundreds of artworks from more than 20 countries have been submitted, providing an exceptional showcase for artists from a wide range of backgrounds.

This virtual exhibition encourages exchange and discovery, while promoting the international recognition and visibility of pastel art and complementing our gallery exhibitions.

WORKSHOPS

Over the years, workshops have been offered by our own PSEC Master Pastelists, as well as by renowned international Master Pastelists.

These workshops provide members who wish to further develop their practice with opportunities for ongoing and advanced training with artists recognized for their expertise.

FREE WEBSITE SERVICES

Our website provides access to all “Pastel Post” newsletters from the PSEC, sent to members by email, as well as extensive information about workshops, exhibition opportunities, courses, and other Society activities.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP

The annual membership fee is $70. Membership is renewed each year, on the anniversary of your membership date.  Membership must be in good standing in order to participate in PSEC exhibitions.

MEMBER PARTICIPATION

The PSEC is primarily funded through annual membership fees, a percentage of artwork sales at our exhibitions, and the valued support of our partners and sponsors.

Entirely managed by volunteers, the PSEC owes its vitality and success to the commitment of those who contribute to the life and development of the Society. The contribution of each and every member is essential to the vitality, visibility, and growth of our Society.

We therefore encourage all members to become actively involved in the life of the PSEC, whether by serving on the Board of Directors,  helping organize activities, or contributing to the preparation and successful operation of our exhibitions.

It is through the commitment, collaboration, and generosity of our members that the PSEC can continue to fulfill its mission, promote the art of pastel, and provide meaningful opportunities for everyone to create, learn, and share their passion.
