ARTIST STATEMENT:
For the past few years, I’ve been working mostly with figure.
I’m interested in exploring the area that lies between capturing the likeness of the subject and my own personal interpretation.
Emotional context is very important in my work. I give special attention to individual figure trying to capture a moment, a presence, state of being.
I am not interested so much in physical likeness as in psychological or more specific, emotional exploration.
I approach a subject by creating a body of work that is based on a general idea.
I choose colours no longer for their resemblance to the flesh tones, but to communicate a particular mood or expression.
I use drawing since it gives me freedom to quickly capture an idea; it allows possibility of immediate response to the moment.
