Juan Cristobal Pinochet Araya was born in Linares, Chile, September 4th 1960. He is the son of artist painter and teacher Silvia Araya. His father is accountant, art critique and art dealer Jorge Pinochet.

Established in Québec since 1977, he makes career in art as an artist painter and teacher. He makes his classic High school at the “Petit Seminaire de Québec” and bachelor at the University of Ottawa.

It’s passion for art lead him to be interested to it from his young age. He attempts drawing and painting classes in his mother school for many years on regular bases. He joins portrait artists group in old Québec for more than ten summers. He executes a large number of life portraits. He participates at the same time to regular life models workshops.

In 1990 he established in Montreal and launches an artist carrier through many art galleries.

In 1994 he moves to Boucherville, south shore of Montréal, and founded the “Academie de dessin et peinture Silvia Araya”.

He goes on with his formation auto didactically for many years. He studies about strategic composition of a painting, through a large number of readings. Today he’s one of the main speakers of this matter in the Quebec province.

In May 1997, he increases his knowledge by attending workshops in Montreal given by the great master and renowned American artist David Leffel.

Through the years he presents his work at many solo and collectives exhibitions in the province and internationally.

He participates for many years at the more important symposiums in the province; Rêves d’automne (Baie-St-Paul), Symposium de l’Estrie (Shawinigan), Rendez-vous des grand peintres ( Chesterville), Symposium de l’Anse-St-Jean (Saguenay), Kamouraska en couleurs (Kamouraska), Carnaval de Québec (Québec) and the prestigious Symposium de Baie-Comeau.

He’s a signature member of the Institut des Arts Figuratifs (IAF), and a Master Pastellist, at the Pastel Society of Eastern Canada (PSEC).

In December 2003 he receives the privilege to be the honour guest at the international exhibition of “Art du Pastel en France” at their annual exhibition in Normandie, France. At this occasion, he is granted by the Yvetot Gold Medal. He has received the Merit certificate from the chamber at the Ottawa parliament.

He has been finalist twice at the National Art Conquest of Reves d’automne in Charlevoix.

Since his membership at the Pastel Society he has been honour with eight prices, among them the first title of Master Pastellist. Many papers have been edited about his work such as “92 transparences” de Louis Bruens, the “Repertoire biennale” Magazin’art 98-99 and 2000-01. Two prestigious editorials describe his work; the “Magazin’art” fall 99, and “Magazin’art” winter 07.

He has been invited to many television programs; “Parcours d’artistes”, and “Mec à dames”.

A large number of newspapers articles describe his career and work in Canada, France and Chili. His name is listed in the Larousse Wikipedia in the Web, through his home town Linares, cultural notorious citizen, among names such as Pablo Neruda.

Actually he directs the Academies Cristobal, advanced drawing and painting schools in Boucherville (south shore of Montréal), Québec and Charlevoix.

His paintings are display in many galleries in Québec, and internationally, but mainly in his two art galleries in Baie- St-Paul and St-Irénée, Charlevoix.
